Client Manager for Anti-Virus - Pre-Release Notification

(imported topic written by Jim_Hansen91)

The

Client Manager for Anti-Virus

site will be updated on

January 20, 2010

(01.20.10) and will include several new updates and changes that users should be aware of. The changes include:

  • Site Rename – The existing Client Manager for Anti-Virus (CMAV) site will be renamed to Client Manager for Endpoint Protection (CMEP). This name change will affect anybody with the site currently loaded. No action is required, but users should take note that the existing CMAV content will show up under +Client Manager for Endpoint Protection/i] instead of Client Manager for Anti-Virus when looking under the Fixlets, Tasks, and Analyses sections.

  • New and Improved Dashboard – A new dashboard will be made available within the BigFix Console. The dashboard will supersede the existing dashboards and wizards found in the CMAV site. Note that the existing dashboards and wizards will continue to be supported and will remain in the site. BigFix will deprecate the older dashboards in the future with appropriate notice.

  • Expanded product / platform support – CMEP has been expanded to include additional support for newer versions of the Symantec, McAfee, Sophos, and Trend Micro anti-malware products, including to support for Windows 7 and Macintosh.

  • Device control – Additional capability has been added to CMEP to provide device control visibility and reporting around USB devices and other connection mechanisms.

The existing capability provide within the CMAV site will remain until BigFix issues a deprecation notice. Users should be aware that when this update is made, the location of Fixlets, Tasks, and Analyses will change. Users will need to look for the content under

Client Manager for Endpoint Protection

.

Please contact BigFix technical support with any questions or concerns related to this release. BigFix will be posting new documentation and release notes to the support site prior to the update.

We just got the site. Here are our initial observations. The dashboard looks good. Very Responsive. Really liking the inclusion of OS X and Win7 support.

Question:

Where is the OS X data coming from? We don’t see an analysis for it.

A few things we noticed / could use improvement:

  • The fixlets for updating out of date signatures for Trend Micro don’t seem to become relevant, even though the dashboard shows two clients with old signatures (may not be related to this update, but we just noticed it).

  • The AV Definition Update Wizard is not duplicated in the Configurations Tasks Wizard. The old wizard points to this new wizard but the functionality is not duplicated. Perhaps there is some other way we just haven’t noticed yet. Trend is missing from the old and new wizard.

  • In the Trend Micro OfficeScan Client Information Analysis, you can not tell what build Officescan is currently at. Officescan version 10 has SP1 plus hotfixes. This is important to know. (http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?id=4002)

  • The dashboard lists the date of the last signature update from the various vendors, but could it list the time and the signature version as well?

  • We have a web report “Client Manager for AntiVirus Overview” that may not be officially supported, but will it be updated?

  • When clicking on a graph, could it take you to the underlying analysis instead (maybe a right click option)

  • Device Control - We have never actually used this but we turned it on just to see what it did. Could the dates and times of the USB connect / diconnect be captured?

  • Device Control - A report for auditing puposes would be useful.

  • No Right Click functionality.

All in all it looks great. Keep up the good work.
