Checking that TCP/IP is enabled on SQL Server

(imported topic written by petasek91)

Hi,

I do the test installation of TEM with SQL Server 2008 Express. My problem is that according to TEM Diagnostics Tool I wrongly configured TCP/IP…

I do the configuration as same as written here:

http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?besproblem=sql_tcpip_not_enabled

but the status is still failed!

Even though this status I am able to connect to TEM server with console…

Do you have some experiences with SQL Server 2008?

Thanks,

Petas

If you are referring to this message that can be presented in the BESDiagnostics when running the DB either remote or using exclusively NT authentication:

Test Failed: Checking that TCP/IP is enabled on SQL server

Reason: Failed to determine if TCP/IP is enabled on SQL server

I’ve been told that you can ignore. There is probabaly a bug listed for that but it has been there for several versions now. I’ve always run in either or both of those models and it has never passed in those situations.

MrFixit, nice to see you have already had the same error as me…

Message for you, I have found the solution of this problem. It is because of the bad configuration of the database server - it is not so bad I wrote, everything can run, but you can have problems with ODBC DSN, next console installations, replication (DSA), etc… Everything seems to be because of the “named instance” of the database.

Hi Petas,

Can you elaborate on what you meant by the “named instance” of the database? What was the fix? I’m currently experiencing the same issue.

Thanks!
