Change Relay installation directory

(imported topic written by jefta_vito91)

Hi, need help here…

I installed few relays with default installation path. But came to realize that some C drives is nearly full. I’d like to change the installation path by uninstall the BES Relay and then install it again on another drives. The problem is right after I uninstall, the BES Client computers will change their relay, many of them choose the BES Server, and it consumes the network bandwidth. I did this before and the network became very heavy. Is there any way that I can change my installation path without uninstalling?or maybe modify the Relay installation?

any kind of help would be much appreciated, thanks…

Hey Jefta,

It is technically possible to change the relay download cache folder, but there are lots of challenges and in practice, we believe that it is more trouble than it is worth.

Here are some notes that might help:

  • If the agents notice the relay is down, they will try to connect a couple times to make sure it really is down and then they enter their “Resist Failure” countdown.
  • The “Resist Failure” setting controls how long the agent will wait when it notices a relay failure before switching relays.
  • The setting name is _BESClient_RelaySelect_ResistFailureIntervalSeconds with more info at http://support.bigfix.com/bes/misc/besconfigsettings.html
  • The default _BESClient_RelaySelect_ResistFailureIntervalSeconds is 10 minutes.
  • You might try setting this setting to something longer (2 hours?) and then uninstall/reinstall the relay.

Hope that helps,

Ben
