Change in license details

(imported topic written by bfa_vkumar)

Hi,

Is it possible to go ahead and change the license details such as the IP address/DNS name due to certain change in the network architecture??

Hi Vasant,

The DNS name/IP address is the “identifier” for the BES deployment and it is tied to the licensing and the security information. If you change your DNS name/IP address, it equivalent to re-issuing a new license and you must re-create your private keys.

If you must change the licensing details for some reason (for instance if you forget your license key password), BES has a built-in mechanism to transition the BES Clients to the new license using Task #200 on the BES Support site “Switch BES Client Action Site Masthead”, which alleviates the need to re-deploy the BES Clients. However, you will still need to re-install your BES Server components, and we highly recommend that you only go through this process if you have no alternatives. (This is why we make a big-deal about choosing the right DNS name / IP Address at install time and why we recommend that you securely backup your license key files and passwords.)
