Building a new TEM server

We are building a new TEM server (new hardware) and then doing a fresh install and upgrade of the TEM software. My question is: How do we get the clients to talk to the new server? Is anythng published on this process?

Also, is there a way to preserve our current group structure/policies and then import them into the new build?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am working on this right now as well. Here are the steps I am doing:

  1. Upgrade your current server to the latest version of TEM (server, relays, consoles, clients)

  2. Build your new server with the same TEM version

  3. Backup your DB and files as per the KB - take off the network (inlcuding the user accounts unless you plan to recreate them)

  4. Restore your or perform a DR to the new server with the data from the current server

  5. Swap your DNS or IP so it is the same as your current server.

Clients should start checking back in after a little while.

I’ve gone through 2 hardware upgrades and about to do a 3rd and this works every time.

Are you trying to use your current masthead or do you have a new masthead?

My masthead is registered by DNS name, which is a CNAME record, I just moved the record over to the new server.

In theory that should work. I have not tried switching mastheads on a client before. Depending on how many clients you have and if they are all on or not it could take some time for them to all move over to the new server. What kind of group structure or polices do you have? You can export out any custom group, fixlets, tasks from the current server to the new server but would need to re dploy any actions or baselines.
