Hi All,
Coming on the heels of our 8.0 platform release, I’m pleased to announce that the new version of BigFix Power Management is now available.
Existing power management customers can request the new site by emailing licensing@bigfix.com.
We spent a lot of time working on this and incorporated much of the feedback we received from you folks, so we hope you enjoy it. This is the biggest Power Management release to date, and we’re excited to hear what you think.
For the new version, we focused primarily on:
- Power tracking improvements (standby, idle, off, and active states are all tracked)
- Enhanced reporting
- Usability and work flow enhancements
- Full Windows 7 support
- Site localization in 7 languages
An FAQ of the new version follows below.
Feel free to email me at naveed_makhani@bigfix.com with any feedback or questions you may have.
Enjoy!
Naveed

Does this new version of Power Management require 8.0?
No, customers can enjoy the new features on both the 7.2 and 8.0 versions, though customers with 8.0 clients will benefit from native power tracking inspectors and an improved Console and Web Reports experience.
Can customers have both the old site and the new site subscribed at the same time?
Yes, the two sites can run in parallel. We did this so that customers would have ample time to migrate to the new version.
When will BigFix stop supporting the old version?
Support for the old version will end in February 2011, 6 months from now. Customers can still use the old version beyond this date, but BigFix will not publish critical bug fixes or provide general support for the old site after February 2011.
Can I migrate my old historical data to the new version?
The new version of Power Management uses a new data model that tracks much more information, including time in the standby, idle, powered off, and active states. As such, we’re not able to port data stored using the old data model to the new version. That said, you can still hold on to the data that’s already been stored, while moving forward with the new version.
