BigFix Patches for Windows now supports Windows 10 Feature Upgrades

IBM BigFix Patches for Windows now supports the Windows 10 feature upgrades for the Education, Enterprise, Professional editions and their N variants.

In this release, BigFix Patch offers the custom repository feature. Users can download the Microsoft ISO image to their own custom repository before deploying the Windows 10 Feature Upgrades Fixlets. For more information about custom repositories, see this wiki article.

What does BigFix Patches for Windows support in this release?
• Editions: Education, Enterprise, Professional, Education N, Enterprise N, Professional N
• Architecture: x86, x64
• Languages : English and Japanese
• Custom repository feature

What should I do before deploying the Fixlets?
• Ensure that there is sufficient hard disk space.
• Check the .iso file size and if needed, increase your endpoints’ pre-cache and normal download limits using the following configuration settings:

 _BESClient_Download_PreCacheStageDiskLimitMB
 _BESClient_Download_NormalStageDiskLimitMB

• You have the option to use a custom repository from which the Windows 10 ISO image is downloaded.

Note: The downloading process of Windows 10 Feature Upgrade Fixlets is usually larger than 4GB, and is affected by APAR IV84436 in version 9.5. The Fix that addresses this APAR is available on Fixpack 2, which is targeted to be available in Q2 2016 (availability is subject to change). [Post Update: The Fix mentioned in this note has been released. See BigFix 9.5 Patch 2 is now available.]

Is anyone using this? My clients generate a “cannot empty _download” error when most of the action is complete (when reboot is required). Logically this makes sense since it presumably needs files from the iso still, but this prevents the restart prompt from appearing.

Hi Kapaalan,

Please open a PMR. Thanks.

Here’s a link on how to open one, just in case you need some reference.
