Bigfix console on Linux

Does bigfix console works on rhel7,8, or 9 or 10? I am not able to find anything

The BigFix Console is only available as a Windows application.

That said, you can connect to WebUI to connect to BigFix via a browser on non-Windows devices such as RHEL.

Thanks @Aram, I appeared for one of the interview rounds today and was rejected when I informed we would need atleast 1 window device to launch console post implementation of new bigfix environment and they only wanted it to run on RHEL server(I hope I was correct). This is a new client going for Bigfix implementation only on Rhel devices. Not sure if ESM team has shared the required updates with them.

I believe it should be possible to achieve any post implementation configurations via API rather than via BigFix Console if required. Perhaps this is an area we can assist with offline if you'd like to explore such an approach.

Yes, I think this can be achieved via API. But I am still unsure if bypassing bigfix console entirely will be a good idea. Thanks for insights on API part.

I handled a project a long time ago at IBM where we provided RHEL-based laptops/desktops with a GUI to privileged users. Out of curiosity, I learned quite a bit about Linux desktop environments such as GNOME and KDE.

These Linux desktop environments could also be used with Wine, a compatibility layer that allows many Windows applications to run directly on Linux. Not sure if Wine is still actively supported today.

So, if the required Windows dependencies are supported by Wine, there is a possibility that BESConsole could run on Linux through Wine as well.

I have not had much success running the BES Console through Wine, though that was on macOS.

The console remains my preferred way to manage BigFix (by a pretty wide margin), so cross-compatibility would definitely be nice.

Concur, it would be great if pragmatic ways to run the BigFix console on non-Windows existed. It would also be great if it were realistically possible to use/run BigFix without the Windows console.

Think of it this way, no one else will be able to do it either. They may claim they can, but turn out not to be able to do it.
