Ok, my brain may just be fried, it’s been one of those weeks. But I can not seem to find this guy anywhere in the BigFix 8 console. The only Asset Discovery item I see that will allow one to run a discovery is the “Run Nmap Scan” fixlet.
That fixlet states:
“To schedule repeated scans or to specify advanced configuration options such as additional ports, timing/agressiveness options, specific hosts to exclude, and other Nmap command line switches, use the BigFix Asset Discovery Nmap Configuration Wizard to generate a custom Nmap Scan Fixlet message.”
cidermark - Thx! I was looking under the “Asset Discovery” sections of the Security Configuration and System Lifecycle domains. I also looked under All Content | Sites as well.
BigFix - Is there a reason why the wizards for a site don’t appear under that site? Or why under the All Content Domain | Sites - Wizards and Dashboards for a site don’t show up there. I was under the assumption that anything and everything to do with a site would be there.
The wizard should be found in the Security Configuration and Systems Lifecycle Domain. It is under AssetDiscovery -> Manage Scanning. You’ll have to expand the node to see it in the domain tree. Just clicking on the Manage Scanning list will only bring up a list of fixlets/analysis and not the wizard.
Oh wow. That’s a bit hidden and slightly deceptive - as the count of objects under the Manage Scanning section shows 3. When we saw 3 items (fixlets / analysis) listed in the right pane we didn’t click any further.
I think as a feature request, I would ask that Wizards be visible at the Site level when viewing the site under Domains and that Wizard and Dashboards be visible under the All Content domain | Sites.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ve added this thread to an existing bug calling for a Wizards and a Dashboard folder under each site node.
I want to make sure I understand. You initially clicked on the Manage Scanning node, but didn’t see the Wizard in the list pane on the right, so did not bother to expand it. That appears to be a bug- the wizard should be in the list. Was this the first place you looked for the Wizard, or was even the “Manage Scanning” node hidden for you?
What we’re trying to do in nodes like this is connect the wizard with the fixlets it creates. So after using the NMAP wizard, the fixlets you create would appear in the “Custom Scan Tasks” node right below the wizard.
