Bes Server Install

(imported topic written by gcibirch91)

Not to sure if this is the right Forum.

If we uninstall the BigFix from the Server and then re-install as we want to change a few defaults. Would we need to uninstall the clients from the other servers or would they automatically be picked up by the new install?

thanks

Can you let us know what you mean by changing the defaults?

Hi Ben,

Basically Default folders. When the initial install was done it looks like everything was dumped on the C drive and we would like to use our dedicated databse server for the BES database.

Just want to do a reinstall of the server and make sure evrything is set correctly. My concern is that I would need to uninstall the clients first then once server has been re-installed then reinstall the clients. However the name of the server won’t change.

Ah…

No the uninstall and reinstall of the server will not require reinstall of anything else (unless you switch mastheads).

Thanks Ben,

is there anything else I need to look out for??

Once the server is installed and sites subscribed to, does BES automatically download all patches, updates, fixes etc for both windows and the BES server/Clients

It is all just supposed to work… I think the installer will actually figure out what you are trying to do and copy the files over for you… and if not, the system will just regather the Fixlets and redownload the files (on demand)…

I am assuming you aren’t doing anything to your database…

Hi Ben

Basically what I am trying to do is a clean install. Install a new database on a dedicated database server. clena install of Bes as well.

What are the documents I need to follow to do this??? also the site we are subscribed to, i.e. Patch management…where is the file stored for that to use on the new build?

thanks

Hi Lee,

If you start a new database, you effectively need to redo all your policies and everything else about the system… Perhaps, you can migrate the database?
