This post is meant as a discussion starter specifically for questions regarding BES Client action responses.
Generally, you should see that when you take an action, almost all BES Clients (that are powered on and connected to the network) should initially respond within a few minutes (anywhere from 1 minute to 20 minutes or so). This should happen regardless of the size of your deployment (10 computers up to 200,000 computers).
Things that can cause this to not work quickly:
-
BES Client doesn’t receive the UDP message – You can check this by looking at the BES Client logs for the “GatherHash command received” after you take an action, which indicates that the BES Client received the action. If the BES Client doesn’t receive the UDP message, it can take up to a day to respond.
-
The BES Relay doesn’t have the latest data – You can check this by looking at the “Gather Status” of the BES Server and the BES Relay using instructions at http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=50 . If the version numbers of the “actionsite” or one of the “opsites” don’t match, then the BES Relay probably is not getting the latest data for some reason. In these cases, the BES Client may never respond to the action (because it doesn’t know about the action).
Feel free to post agent responsiveness issues here.
