BES clients are talking to the failover relay instead of Primary relay

(imported topic written by Lalitha91)

We are running Tivoli Endpoint Manager - version 8.1.551.0

I need help with troubleshooting why the BES client machines are talking to the failover relay and not to it’s Primary relay. We have created an Automatic group (Clients Using Failover Relay) and some of the BES client machines are showing in this group and I need to clear them from this group list.

There are 8 BES client machines that are set to talk to a primary relay machine however, they are currently pointing to the Failover relay. The primary relay machine responds to ping request and has a valid DNS entry. The BES relay service is up & running on the primary relay machine. From one of the 8 client machines, I tested if it can reach the primary relay machine by pinging the relay machine and it pings fine. I would like to know what other things I need to verify/check as all the 8 machines are now pointing to the Failover relay machine. I need to ensure that these machines point to their Primary and not the Failover relay.

Thanks

see if port 52311 is open from your 8 clients to the primary relay by RDP into one of the clients, then run start > run > cmd > telnet PRIMARYRELAYNAME 52311 (assuming that 52311 is the port you are using for your bes deployment).

I know my port is open, and this is the response:

HTTP/1.0 400 Bad Request

Server: BigFixHTTPServer/8.1.608.0

Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2011 19:55:46 +0000

Connection to host lost.

If you get no response, then you probably have a firewall blocking port 52311 tcp from your client to your primary relay

Thanks for your response… the port 52311 is not blocked.
