Baseline visibility in domain

(imported topic written by mikko_k91)

Hi all

I’ve created some baselines and selected Systems Lifecycle in the “Create in domain” list. However, the baselines are never visible when I navigate to Systems Lifecycle > All Systems Lifecycle > Baselines.

I can see the baselines in All Content > Baselines just fine.

Am I missing something?

The way we’re displaying baselines is a little tricky and we’re in discussion to improve it so any feedback on what you would expect would be appreciated.

The node you’re looking in for the baseline only shows baselines that have components that are part of that particular domain, in this case Systems Lifecycle.

You can still find it in the Systems Lifecycle domain by going to Systems Lifecycle -> All System Lifecycle -> Custom Content -> All Custom Content -> Baselines

It’s a few more nodes deep, but it is much more broad in what is filtered here. These are baselines that are either assigned to the domain, have components that are assigned in that domain, or have components from a custom site assigned to that domain.

Again we’re looking to improve this, but the complexity of baselines make it difficult to place them somewhere appropriate without them ending up just everywhere.

Jason, thanks a lot for this explanation. I don’t really have a lot of feedback yet but I’ll keep posting as we go along.

However I’m not seeing it working quite as you describe.

Most of the baselines I have so far only contain one or two Software Distribution Tasks as components and maybe a group membership relevance. These baselines are not visible in the node

Systems Lifecycle > Baselines

. This is something I would expect, as the tasks themselves are visible in

Systems Lifecycle > Fixlets and Tasks

.

I also just checked

Patch Management > Baselines

, and there I have my Java update baseline visible as I would expect. But, for some reason my BES Client baseline is also visible here - even though the baseline only contains BES Client tasks like “BES Client Setting: Enable Auto Relay Selection”. These tasks are not visible in

Patch Management > Fixlets and Tasks

.

Edit a bit later: forgot to mention that the BES Client baseline has Create in Domain set as All Content, and it’s not visible in Systems Lifecycle or Security Configuration, just in All Content > Baselines and Patch Management > Baselines.

Any futher comments here?

I’m unable to get any baselines visible in System Lifecycle > Baselines.

It seems to work differently from for example Patch Management > Baselines, where all baselines that have “Create in domain: patch management” set are visible.

We need to make some tweaks to our baseline nodes. Our goal for the Baseline nodes is for them to show all baselines that are assigned to the domain, are in a site assigned to the domain, or that have components whose source Fixlet is visible within the domain.

I think this maps to what you were expecting, based on the examples in this thread:

  • Baselines that include software distribution tasks that themselves are assigned to the domain, or in a site assigned to the domain, will show up in the Systems Lifecycle domain. Eventually, this will also be the case for tasks created from Wizards in the domain but not assigned to the domain or one of its sites, but we won’t be able to do that for a while.
  • The baselines that only contain BES Client settings should not appear in the Patch Management domain.

This definition should be implemented fairly soon.

We’ve made some tweaks to how Baselines are displayed in the latest gather of the BES Support site version 753. Please take a look and see if this more matches what you expect to show up as Baselines belonging to a given domain.

Yes, for me at least it seems to be as expected. The BES Client baseline is gone from Patch Management, and baselines with lifecycle tasks are visible in System Lifecycle > Baselines. Thank you!
