Using “Automatic Group” ,the computers number do not synchronous between the Master Operators’s console and the Operators’s console for several days.
Example:
Master Operators (callde A) created a Automatic Group “ip group”,and assigned the Operators (called B) the rights to the group “ip group”.When A can see about 600 computers in the “ip group”,but the B (remote console)can only see about only 30 computers in the group. This status lasts about 2 days.
Then we reboot the BES server and remove the B’s console cache, but B can also see only 30 computers still.
And then ,we delete the group and re-create it the same Retrieved Properties as before, and this time the B can see about 400 computers, but however about 200 computer still not be shown.
So i want to know, which can cause this thing,or maybe it is just a bug.
Automatic group membership is determined on the client side. When you create an automatic group, the action is sent to the clients and, based on the targeting, clients will report back if they are members of the group.
It sound like your clients are not getting initial notification of the automatic group action. They may be offline, or they may be blocked by firewall rules. Based on your description of 24-48 hours before clients check into the group, firewall is a good bet for the likely cause. Clients will initiate a gather once every 24 hours without receiving a gather ping. My guess is that is when they are receiving the action and reporting back as part of the group.
You likely have the same behavior with any action… Do you see that most actions take 24 hours or more for most clients to report? It should only take a few minutes. If so, you almost certainly have firewall rules blocking BigFix traffic.
