We are new in bigfix environment and we want to configure automatic computer group for more than 50,000 clients. We appreciate if you could give us some insights on these quests;
How often the computer group will check for new computers? Or does the computer responsible for evaluating, not the computer group?
I would recommend go for “Server Based Group”.
Computer groups rely on the properties reported by endpoints during their evaluation cycles to dynamically update their membership. The frequency of these updates is determined by the evaluation cycle of the BigFix clients installed on the endpoints, not by the computer groups themselves.
I don’t see any impact on the performance of root server with 50K devices.
Automatic computer groups are very efficient as they are evaluated by the Clients themselves (every evaluation loop as suggested above), and the number of devices in the group does not really affect the group’s impact (neither to the device, nor to the Root Server). What is more impactful is the number of groups rather than the number of devices per automatic computer group (but even that impact is quite low).
