Applicable Computer Count vs. Relevant

(imported topic written by ryansmith91)

I have a quick question concerning Applicable Computer Count vs. Relevancy. Is there any difference between the two?

We have been deploying a lot of MS security patches lately, however I see that while the vast majority come back with a “Complete” status and those that either fail, pending restart or expired is much less than the remaining applicable computer count.

Is there something I’m missing?

Thanks!

Ryan,

After you deploy a Fixlet it should come back with a ‘Fixed’ status if it applies successfully to the computers. If the computer needs to be restarted the status will be ‘Pending Restart’. The Fixlet applicable computer count won’t decrease until the final action status of ‘Fixed’ is reported.

Each action you deploy will display a %-completed to tell you how many of the reported computers have reported back ‘fixed’ for that issue.

Are you seeing computers that have reported ‘Fixed’ for an action but still report relevant for the original Fixlet? It might help to look at specific computers then to try to add up the totals.

Just had another thought. The applicable computer count may be much less then it was originally because of all the actions you sent out. The applicable computer count for a Fixlet tells you to computers left that you need to apply the patch to. The applicable computer count will decrease as you deploy the patch. Maybe there are some computers that you have not tried to patch at all?
