All versions of an executable

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

With DSS SAM, is there a way to specify all versions of an executable when manually cataloging? For example, we are looking for all emule.exe files, regardless of version. Do we use 0.0 in the version text box?

We support wildcard matching on package strings (add/remove program data), but not on executable versions. Version 0.0 is a stand-in value for executables which do not have version data in their headers.

You could create a stack of executable records and stuff them all under a single app like “eMule (all versions)”, or go through the “Definitive Package Property” feature and craft a package that captures all versions.

If you want to go that route, see the DSS SAM user’s guide for more details.
