Affiliation Appears to not Work

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

I have setup affiliation in a lab environment using Bigfix 8.0xxx. I have 3 clients and the server which are all on the same subnet. Of course the server is a relay, and I made one other client a relay. Then I defined affiliation between the relay client and the other two clients, but the console still shows the clients using the server as the relay rather than the affiliation. I ran the task to force automatic relay selection, but no luck. I am pretty sure the syntax for the affiliation is correct. I checked it 100 times. It is supposed to work according to the lab.

I found that I could not ping the client relay because the firewall was on. I turned off the firewal on the client relay and ran force automatic relay selection again. Still no luck.

I am answering my own question. After turning off the firewall on the client relay, the affiliation worked. It took about 5 minutes for the change to appear in the console. Now, my two clients are pointing to the relay client as their relay rather than the server.
