Topic: Iso 19770-1:2006

Message: We are working with a costumer that is interested in BigFix for vulnerability management but they also have a SAM project where they are focusing on the ISO 19770-1:2006 standard and are looking for products that support the standard. I don’t know allot about the standard only what I have read about the standard on the ISO site. Could someone in brief either point to some documents that explain this or give a description on how BigFix supports this standard.ThanksHans

Topic: Uninstall DSS SAM Scanner

Message: The uninstall task deletes the whole DSS registry structure at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BigFix\DSS by first creating a .reg file, and then running regedit with the .reg file as a deletion argument. When that portion of the registry is deleted, the Install task will be relevant again. If the uninstall task can't create the .reg file or isn't able to run regedit, the registry deletion won’t take place and the Install task won’t become relevant. Does the action info from the client for this run of the Uninstall task show any failures?

Topic: Uninstall DSS SAM Scanner

Message: Has anyone run the "Uninstall SAM Scanner" task? To me it doesn't seem to run correctly and after running it on a system, that system never becomes relevent for the "Install DSS SAM Scanner" task. On the "Install DSS SAM Scanner" task seems to just to look to see if the OS is a windows and then it looks for the following "not exists key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BigFix\DSS\SAM" whose (exists value "SAMDeny" of it) of registry" which is still part of my registry after I run the uninstall!

Topic: infopath and Office 2k7 pro

Message: Oh, if you installed Office 2007 Pro Plus and that's what you want to report for these machines with InfoPath, then the solution for your environment is even easier than I described above. In the Software Catalog, just drag-and-link InfoPath 2007 from the Office Enterprise entry into the Office Pro Plus entry. Screenshot example attached.

Topic: infopath and Office 2k7 pro

Message: How did InfoPath get on those machines if not installed as part of an Office 2007 Enterprise install? Maybe you installed Office 2007 Pro and then you added the standalone InfoPath 2007 to the machines? (According to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suite … 91033.aspx, InfoPath is not included in Pro.)The only way those machines would report Office 2007 Enterprise is if one of these is true:1) At least one of the applications included in the Enterprise edition of the suite is present and the registry says "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 - 12.*" -- OR --2) If one of the applications in the suite is appears under only that one edition in the Catalog (i.e. it is not ambiguous so the registry data is not needed ... In other words, according to the catalog, the only way the application could possibly be there is if it was installed via that suite.)I think you hit case #2. It looks like we have InfoPath 2007 in the Catalog, but it appears only under the suite (and not as a standalone). Here's how to resolve it:1) In the software catalog, search for Software Title "infopath"2) You'll see "Microsoft Office InfoPath". Click it to go to the Software Title. You'll see InfoPath 2003 there.3) Click the Add link under Software Title Versions.4) Fill in the name: InfoPath 2007. 5) Fill in the Packages: you can probably use "Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 - 12.*" but check the unmapped packages list -- filter using "infopath" and see if you have it in your inventory already and add it from there. You want it to be unique to this title, but you can use * to wildcard the end of the string if you are careful to keep it unique to this title.6) Fill in the application: InfoPath 2007.7) Fill in the executable and version: infopath.exe 12.08) Save it9) Go to the DSS SAM control panel, Import Options tab.10) Check the Reset All Import Sequences button and click Run.This will cause InfoPath 2007 to appear as Microsoft > Microsoft Office InfoPath > InfoPath 2007 standalone in the drill down, unless it was installed using the Office 2007 Enterprise installer (in which case, it will report as Microsoft > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise > InfoPath 2007). -- Jeff

Topic: Update to DSS Inquiry

Message: Hi Mike,Technically it doesn't matter if you update SAM Scanner first or update the Upload task to use compressed uploads first -- they are independent. If you chose compressed uploads, the upload task will take whatever index file is there, compress it, and upload it.However, per the instructions, if you're going to use compressed uploads, be sure to clean the uploads directory on the server first. -- Jeff

Message: Hello,Does the order of the new DSS updates make a difference? The new KB article on updating, lists the instructions for the log uploads before the SAM scanner update. However, it does not state they have to be done in that particular order. Wondering if I can start testing the scanner update on some workstations - before making the global change to the log uploading. Thanks!Mike

Topic: Scheduled Imports Not Running

Message: Jeff,Thank you for looking into this. The problem is sporadic. It works for a few days and then stops. What we found, based on the details you provided below, is that the scheduled task is there and is running as the service account that the DSS SAM services are running under. We also found that the scheduled task is what gets stuck in a running state. All we had to do to fix it this morning was stop the task and restart - the imports then ran as expected and on schedule. We watched the process using pslist and can clearly see when it starts and stops, so the next time it happens, we will check to see which subtask is still running. There does not appear to be any log file associated with the cron / scheduled task job. Is there a way to log the actions of the cron job?BTW, we upgraded from DSS 1.1 to 1.1.1 and the issue still persists. Thanks Again,John
